Oxford University Students drive Majestic Wine Summertown to a record £3 million sales
Oxford Students have long been known for their liking of all the good things in life but now they are creating the next generation of wine experts too.
Majestic Wine Summertown is due to hit the £3 million milestone in sales this year, the biggest ever sales performance since the store opened in 2008. The store was taken over by the new manager Graeme Woodward in October 2016 and since then he has grown retail sales by nearly 8% vs last year, focusing on creating partnerships with local University colleges.
The store has also recently started a new partnership with Bacchus, the University wine society. Through the society Majestic has been able to introduce new wine trends, including Majestic’s new unique parcels of wine, which taste far better than the price tag would suggest.
As a reward for Graeme and his team’s success this year, the Majestic central buying team ran the store for a day last week, giving the Summertown team a day off to go and have a meal and escape adventure.
Richard Weaver, Director of Buying & Merchandising at Majestic Wine commented:
“We’re getting more students coming into Majestic to learn about great wines. My passion for wine began when I was at University and I’ve spent my whole career developing it. As one of the largest graduate employers in the UK, Majestic is the perfect place for students to learn about quality wines that don’t have to cost the earth. The Summertown store have done a brilliant job taking Oxford students on a wine education and we’re very proud of their hard work.”
